Arts Funders Roundtable: Arts Education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools

This session, led by Janet Sarbaugh of The Heinz Endowments and D’Ann Swanson of The Grable Foundation, will focus on the developing arts education strategy of the Pittsburgh Public Schools and will feature Mario Rossero, newly hired Senior Program Officer for Arts Education.

Mario Rossero has recently returned to his native city of Pittsburgh and in this role he is charged with providing leadership in the arts in terms of professional development, curriculum writing, assessment, community building, and strategic planning. Between 2004 and 2010 Mario served in a number of roles in Chicago Public Schools, ranging from Director of Magnet Schools and Programs, Interim Director of the Office of Arts Education, Administrator for the Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Cluster Program, to visual art teacher. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at Columbia College Chicago in the Educational Studies department. In his over ten years of classroom experience Mario led numerous in-school partnerships. Of particular note is his work in building community garden installations. Mario is also a practicing visual artist, primarily focusing on drawing and collage.
